Cinenews/Classic Cinema

1936-1972

The Classic Cinema, originally Cinenews in Commercial Rd, was sited near Dunn's the hatters on the corner of Meadow Street. It opened in 1936 as Cinenews and was one of those small news-theatres. Towards the end of its life, it ran regular late night shows, usually the horror type. It closed in 1972, The last film shown was The Cruel Sea
